The account of Eli and his sons, Hophni and Phinehas, teaches us about the consequences of unfaithfulness. The early signs of their unfaithfulness were evident in their contempt for God’s commandments, their abuse of the priesthood for personal gain, their sexual immorality, and their refusal to heed correction.
Although Eli was aware of their wickedness, his failure as a father and spiritual leader was that he did not restrain them or remove them from their positions, thereby honoring his sons above God. As a result, severe judgment came upon them: Hophni and Phinehas died in battle, Eli himself died upon hearing the news, the Ark of God was captured, and God’s glory departed from Israel.
This event shows that God does not tolerate persistent unfaithfulness, even among those who serve in sacred offices. Just as God judged Eli’s household, He also judged Aaron’s sons, Nadab and Abihu, when they offered strange fire before Him. Moses declared, “This is it that the LORD spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified” (Leviticus 10:3, KJV). These examples remind us that God requires holiness, obedience, and faithfulness from all who serve Him.

In today’s Bible study, we are looking at the consequences of unfaithfulness to God through the life of Saul. Saul was a great man of God, chosen by God to be king over Israel. When he was anointed by Prophet Samuel, the Holy Spirit came upon him, God gave him another heart, and he prophesied when he joined the prophets (1 Samuel 10:9-11).
Although Saul was chosen, anointed, and blessed by God, he lost many great things because of disobedience and rebellion against God’s instructions. His life teaches us that unfaithfulness to God can lead to rejection, loss of divine favor, and destruction. May this study encourage us to remain faithful, obedient, and humble before God.

The Philadelphian Church teaches us that even when our strength is small, our faithfulness can be great in the sight of God. When we hold on to His word, remain loyal to His name, and endure patiently, He rewards us with open doors, protection, and eternal honor. God is still looking for faithful believers who will stand firm until the end. You may have “a little strength” but know that your faithfulness will not go unrewarded by God if you did not give up, but remain faithful to the end.

Following Christ often requires sacrifice. Many believers leave comfort, possessions, relationships, and personal ambitions in order to obey God. In this passage, Peter reminded Jesus that the disciples had left everything to follow Him. Jesus responded with a powerful promise: no one who sacrifices for the Kingdom of God will lose their reward. God always rewards faithfulness both in this life and in the life to come.

Apostle Paul is among the top defenders of the Gospel. No sacrifice was too much for him to pay in defending his faith. Paul is a strong example of a believer who defended the faith with boldness, wisdom, and endurance. He was once a persecutor of the Church, but after encountering Christ, his life was completely transformed. From that moment, he became fully devoted to the gospel he once opposed. He travelled widely, taught the truth, corrected false teachings, and encouraged believers to remain strong in the faith. He spent hundreds of hours writing Epistles in the defense of the Gospel. Despite many trials, Paul never turned back. His life shows us that defending the faith requires not only knowledge of the truth but also courage, sacrifice, and total commitment to Christ.
