Jesus warned that false prophets would arise and deceive many people in the last days. Not every preacher or teacher speaks the truth of God’s Word. We must test every teaching by the Scriptures and remain grounded in sound doctrine. Those who know God’s Word are less likely to be deceived. The Kingdom of God is not only a future hope but a present reality in the lives of those who have truly surrendered to Jesus Christ. Kingdom living is not measured by spiritual gifts, religious activities, or church attendance alone, but by a transformed life that reflects the character of Christ. This transformation is the work of the Holy Spirit, who produces His fruit in every believer who abides in Christ. Just as a healthy tree naturally bears good fruit, so a genuine believer will bear the fruit of the Spirit.
Even though we don’t hear messages about the kingdom of God often these days, the greatest message Jesus preached was the Kingdom of God. From the beginning of His earthly ministry until His ascension, He proclaimed the Kingdom and called people to enter it. Salvation is not merely an escape from hell but it is an invitation into God’s Kingdom. Every believer becomes a citizen of God’s Kingdom and is expected to live according to its principles. Sadly, many Christians know about the Kingdom, but few understand what it means to live a Kingdom lifestyle. The Kingdom lifestyle is a way of life that reflects the rule of God in every area of our lives. As we begin this series, we shall discover what it truly means to live as ambassadors of Christ and citizens of heaven. We shall study the attitudes, values, responsibilities, and conduct expected of everyone who belongs to God’s Kingdom.
The defeat of Israel in 1 Samuel 4 reminds us that God’s protection should never be taken for granted. Disobedience opens doors for enemies, Satan, and demonic attacks, while obedience keeps believers under God’s protective care. Jesus declared that the prince of this world had nothing in Him because He lived in complete obedience to the Father. As God’s chosen people, we must avoid every form of disobedience and remain faithful to God so that we may continue to enjoy His presence, favor, and protection.
The account of Eli and his sons, Hophni and Phinehas, teaches us about the consequences of unfaithfulness. The early signs of their unfaithfulness were evident in their contempt for God’s commandments, their abuse of the priesthood for personal gain, their sexual immorality, and their refusal to heed correction.
Although Eli was aware of their wickedness, his failure as a father and spiritual leader was that he did not restrain them or remove them from their positions, thereby honoring his sons above God. As a result, severe judgment came upon them: Hophni and Phinehas died in battle, Eli himself died upon hearing the news, the Ark of God was captured, and God’s glory departed from Israel.
This event shows that God does not tolerate persistent unfaithfulness, even among those who serve in sacred offices. Just as God judged Eli’s household, He also judged Aaron’s sons, Nadab and Abihu, when they offered strange fire before Him. Moses declared, “This is it that the LORD spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified” (Leviticus 10:3, KJV). These examples remind us that God requires holiness, obedience, and faithfulness from all who serve Him.
