Don’t Remove The Scandal from the Gospel by Bro. Hosanna David

Don’t Remove The Scandal from the Gospel by Bro. Hosanna David

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is strange to the people of this world. It is foolishness in their eyes. Those who preach the pure truth are shamed and persecuted. Some preachers have decided to remove the scandal so that they can escape the shame that is attached to the pure Gospel of Jesus Christ. Removing the scandal renders the Gospel ineffective.

What is scandal? It is a circumstance or action that offends propriety or established moral conceptions or disgraces those associated with it; loss of or damage to reputation caused by actual or apparent violation of morality or propriety : Disgrace; malicious or defamatory gossip (Merriam Webster Dictionary).

What does the Bible say about this? The Bible says that we shall be hated for His name’s sake.

Here are some Bible verses:

“Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.” (Matthew 24:9 )

“But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues” (Matthew 10:17).

“But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks FOOLISHNESS; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:23-24)

If we must follow Jesus Christ we must deny ourselves and everything that can stand on our way. We should know that there’s a price to pay, there’s a cross to carry daily: “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” (Luke 9:23)

The time we live in is characterized by different doctrinal deceptions. Many are busy serving God but they are not worshipping in Spirit and in truth. It is only those who worship according to God’s standard that will be accepted. There is need for us to constantly examine ourselves so that we will not be led astray.

Paul warned Timothy to always watch his doctrine closely. He said:
“Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.” (1 Timothy 4:16 KJV)

God has standard. His standard is not according to man’s invention but it is according to God’s own Word:
“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:23-24)

God is a perfect God who demands perfection from His Children. But we are imperfect and even weak in many areas of our lives. How can we walk with God even if we are weak? Do we need to be strong first before we start a relationship with God? No. The truth is this: even in our weakest moments God yearns for a relationship with us. How has God’s mercy been able to deal with us in our weaknesses? God’s love, mercy, patience and His grace make it possible for God to relate with us in our weaknesses, as He enables us to become perfect and strong like Himself.

This is the testimony of how I overcame backsliding at one of the weakest moments and darkest season of my life. I am sharing it with the Body of Christ to let us know that standing strong in the Lord and overcoming backsliding is entirely without our personal human strength, but by God’s grace. I hereby encourage you to stop measuring your personal strength before choosing whether to obey God or keep His commands. Brethren, if you lack strength don’t lack zeal. Even if your flesh is weak let your spirit be willing.

“So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

16  He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

17  He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. (John 21::15-17)
